Focusing the church
Focusing The Church is a spiritual discovery process designed to take your church through a visioning process that leads to the implementation of your church’s vision through the creation of a unified, multi-year ministry plan. The four phases of the process are implemented through three churchwide Summits designed to include your church congregation, followed by a core leadership team retreat. The four phases are:
ASSESS – “Where have we been?” during Summit 1
If an organization is going to change, it must first come to terms with its own current reality. Summit 1 focuses on the construction of a Church Journey Wall that reflects your church’s unique spiritual journey, turning points, and lessons learned that reveal your current values. It concludes with a time of reflection and prayer dedicating your church—as well as this process—to Jesus.
CLARIFY – “Where are we going?” during Summit 2
Your church will gain clarity on the local demographic of people you are best positioned to reach. Then taking the church through the visioning process, the group will seek to clarify what your church’s impact will look like (vision) as it reaches those whom God has entrusted them. Next, your church will determine the strategic values they must engage if your vision is going to be achieved, by God’s grace.
ALIGN – “How are we going to get there?” during Summit 3
Summit 3 moves your church toward implementation of its vision by outlining its mission and conceptualizing a Discipleship Pathway which the church will follow as it seeks to make and multiply disciples of Jesus.
IMPLEMENT – “Mapping out the Future” during a Leadership Retreat
Implementation of the ministry plan flows out of a core Leadership Retreat. Participants should include key staff, ministry leaders, and board members. The outcome of the Leadership Retreat is to set priorities, resulting in a multi-year Ministry Plan.
